FROM THE MURRAY PIONEER 30/3/07

Funding for drag strip
Berri Barmera Council will fund the Riverland Motor Sports Club $5000 to help the club prepare a business plan for its proposed drag racing strip at the Riverland Field Days site.
Negotiations over the land's sub leasing arrangements have been going on for 12 months with the Riverland Field Days Committee.
In its most recent meeting agenda, the Berri Barmera Council stated that the club had received planning approval for construction of the track, but this had lapsed due to several factors, including the length of time taken to finalise arrangements.
The agenda states there is considerable interest and support for the development of a quarter mile drag racing strip in the Riverland, as South Australia does not have a fully operational quarter mile strip to attract national and international events.
However, it further states there is a need to develop a business plan and for the project to be staged over a period of time to develop it from a basic facility through to what would be required to hold national events.
To gain funding through organisations such as the Barossa Riverland Mid North Area Consultative Committee's Regional Partnerships Program, a business plan is necessary.
The cost of a relevant business plan is estimated at $20,000.

How about a new update...???

There has been quite a bit of discussion about the up-coming stip on the Dragster Web site...

For example:

How's it coming along ?

Still going at snails pace lol...
Club should have the completed time line and business plan within the month. Then we will have to renegotiate the Lease with the council and the Field day guys.

I will post any new info on here as soon as we make any progress.

Cheers

Any news yet?
I'd be interested in an update for the SMASA newsletter, there are a lot people in Adelaide who are sick of waiting for Bob's empty promises to come true.

Quite a lot of discussion on ABC Radio today (Thursday 26th July) about Car/Street Machine and Hotrod events to be held in the Riverland. One of the main points of discussion was the Riverland Drag Strip...

I did NOT sound good over the radio..

Apparently the 'Hotrod' Nationals or some such event has pulled out of the running to hold a Massive event in the Riverland in 2009 because of the lack of Drag Racing Strip...

The events organiser could not be sure that there would be a drag stip in the Riverland by 2009 and so the Hotrod event is to be held in Goulburn NSW instead.

Millions of $$ lost into the local economy..

This is what i heard on ABC Radio today. Can anyone shed any light on this picture ?? Any light at all would be more promising than todays news story...

The nationals are going to Goulbourn and I think always where. It makes it sound like the drag strip is holding up everthing . It will happen one day we just need peolpe to stay focussed and not listen to bullshit and back the local club NOW not later when ALL the hard work has been done by the few die hards

I dont know how much truth is in that.
I think its the same old story..."DRIVE TO S.A. WHAT THE HELL FOR"
Been to a few Rod Nationals and havn't seen a drag strip used as the drawcard...I cant see a lot of the Roders wanting to Drag their cars anyway, those old wood spoke wheels would break if they got any traction .... Ha Ha

As far as News on the Strip goes, Ill post something after this months meeting on the 29th.

But from what I hear the cost of building the strip has increased by about 100% while we have been waiting on people outside the Club to get into gear.
Mmmmm another two years we might beat Western Sydneys cost of construction...lol

Cheers

Re: This is the latest update

hello guys,
i was just told about your club from a friend last night and was so excited to hear about another 1/4 mile track proposed to be built in SA.
I have almost finished building two cars now but have no where to run them here in Adelaide. What a joke it really is here.
I hope everything is going well and encourage you guys to keep going with your plans. You will have so much support from everyone down here. I have seen so many petitions for 'bobs' track so i know the interest is out there and with a bit of advertising im sure many workshops and car related businesses will help out with support and sponsorship funding etc. There must be millions of dollars worth of cars just waiting in sheds for something like this. An 1/8th mile just isnt the same.
Anyhow, keep up the top work guys and hope to here more updates soon.
regards,
nick.

G'day Nick,

The Riverland Motorsport Club is the best if not the only chance of S.A. getting a 1/4 mile Drag Racing track up and running in the near future.

Paper work is still being shuffled between the Club and Council, but we hope to be able to make some sort of announcement in the next few months.

Cheers
